Compatibility with materials is a key characteristic of disinfectants, along with efficacy and safety. Many disinfectants utilized in pharmaceutical and laboratory facilities utilize harsh chemicals to achieve efficacy negating both safety and materials compatibility. Active ingredients, surfactants, and solvents can damage surfaces, textiles and sensitive pharmaceutical equipment. In addition, manual labor is increased due to the extra step required to wipe away corrosive residues to protect surfaces, which can reintroduce a microbial bio burden.

SteraMist™ powered by Binary Ionization Technology® (BIT™) is a patented two-step process that activates and ionizes a low percent hydrogen peroxide solution. This two-step process is integral to the system’s effectiveness; allowing SteraMist™ to kill pathogenic bacteria on contact, without leaving behind any residue or noxious fumes and quickly converts to oxygen and humidity after contact. This quick and highly efficient conversion is effective on high touch surfaces including sensitive equipment.

Ideal for disinfecting/decontaminating treated hard, nonporous, high touch surfaces and equipment, the SteraMist™ Surface Unit can be used to disinfect:

  • Laminar Airflow Workbenches (LAFWs),
  • Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs),
  • Compounding Aseptic Isolators (CAIs) and,
  • Compounding Aseptic Containment Isolators (CACIs)
  • Materials transferring into and out of aseptic compounding areas
  • Laboratory furniture
  • Surfaces after spills or mishaps

At minimum, it’s recommended that floors be cleaned and disinfected daily, and walls, ceilings, and storage areas be cleaned and disinfected monthly. Manual cleaning is appropriate to remove dirt from these surfaces but also leaves room for error. One missed spot can allow bacteria to colonize on surfaces and spread. SteraMist™ BIT™ goes above, beyond, under and around disinfecting sprays and wipes, reaching surfaces other disinfectants/decontaminants can’t. The SteraMist™ Environment System is ideal for clean rooms and HEPA filtration systems, preventing the colonization of bacteria on treated surfaces.
